Our Logo

Our logo was developed to reflect the different aspects of our state. The star which represents astronomy is placed at our state capital, Albany.  The stylized cross rock hammers represent the garnet mines near Indian Lake near the Hudson River.  While it has been suggested that a dodecahedral representation of the garnet might be in place, the rock hammers do represent a broader geologic interest.  The Eurypterus remipes that is hugging Western New York, our state fossil, is holding onto the Silurian bedrock from whence it came.
